I heard about the Make Up For Ever Pro Road Show months ago from another Miami makeup artist. I immediately went searching for more information and I couldn't believe it was free! 3 days and 9 workshops for free!!! I not only RSVP'd but I saved up my money because all of their products were being sold at the event for 40% off!!! Now, I LOVE Make Up For Ever, and if you saw my previous wish list, you would have noticed that this brand was repeated with different items I wanted.
Now, I missed the first day of workshops because I was doing makeup for a wedding and I was sick, so I went home to rest afterwards. The second day I attended the last workshop which was "The Business of Makeup" by Marietta Carter-Narcisse. Here are photos from the first day.

Here is my view from waiting in line with my order form. Let me tell you, there was ALWAYS a line and it BARELY moved lol. At their HD products at 50% off & everything else at 40% off, people were buying like mad!

While I was in line, Marietta's workshop began.

My view from the floor since every seat was taken!

I finally got all the HD concealers I wanted for my kit. I'm so obsessed with these concealers! I added another color the next day because I forgot to add it to my order. I saved $144.40!!!!! Must wait a week till it gets to me :(

Here I am with Marietta! Seriously I can't stand my curly baby hairs! Arg!
Afterwards they held a networking event at the W Hotel bar and I met some MAC Pro artists, MAC Pro managers, Fred Vellon, and a bunch of makeup artists who I've only met through Facebook, so it was so much fun finally meeting them in person! I even got told from one that they read my blog! :)
DAY 2:

Here is the hilarious Michael DeVellis who had a workshop on building you portfolio.

There's my younger sister Mallory who joined me for the Smoky Eye workshop. She's obsessed with makeup just as much as I am, so I'm glad to have her around. She bought a couple of goodies too.

Damian Castellanos held the Smoky Eye workshop. It was cool to see him use the Make Up For Ever products first hand.
Some great tips I learned from the workshop:
1. If you are freelancing, you are your business, treat it as such.
2. Have an online presence.
3. Now what type of makeup industry you want to be a part of & focus on that. You can't do it all. Bridal? TV? Film? Print?
4. Beginners should start with bridal makeup. It's good practice & brides are tough clients, so you will learn a lot.
5. Make sure your print portfolio tells a story.
6. Do not have a photo of yourself on your business card.
7. You NEED a website!
8. Before you get hired for your work, you have to go through phase one: do you look well put together?
9. You need two sides of your kit: waterproof for bridal/personal clients and non waterproof for print, TV etc work.
10. If you are not 100% proud of your work, don't show it.
11. If you have a price page on your site, list your prices, don't write: contact for pricing. If that's the case, don't have a price page at all!
