Review: Dinair Airbrush System

I have been using Dinair's Airbrush System for over a year now. What made me choose this system over all the others was the price ( it was the cheapest, but not cheap lol) and I saw two YouTube Videos on it that were positive.

I like that the compressor is really small, which makes it easy to fit with the rest of my kit. I also have all of Dinair's foundation colors.

Quick review:

Compressor: A
Airbrush Gun: F
Foundations: C

Long review:

Compressor: after a year of use, I have no complaints about the compressor. I love how small it is and it still works perfectly. There is a nob to change the airflow and the available airflow works perfect. I wish the compressor worked with a regular cord instead of a rubber cord because instead of buying a whole new system, I would have just bought a new airbrush gun.

Airbrush gun: ugh, where do I start. When I first started using this, it worked perfect. But the more I used it, the less it worked. I cleaned my airbrush gun after every use, but not a deep clean where I took apart the whole gun and cleaned all the parts. I saw a review on this system by Goss on YouTube and he said he did not like the gun and a lot of people commented that they agreed. I wish he had made this video before I bought it! I told my friend Lesly about it, and she said she had the same problem with her Dinair gun and she called Dinair and they told her she had to take it apart and give it a deep clean. So I did that, and viola! It worked perfect again..... For that one time. I found myself giving the gun a deep cleaning after EVERY use, which I have no problem with because I don't want foundation build up, but the gun got worse and worse! I even soaked it in water over night to soften any foundation I could not see and clean it as best I could, but nothing worked. The last few times I used it, air wasn't even coming out. Oh! And in the past when it would work, it was still a bad gun because it would splatter the foundation, instead of giving an airbrush spray. The last 3 events I used it for was spent trying to get it to work for 15 to 20 minutes. Horrible gun, seriously.

Foundations: I absolutely love Dinair's foundations when I can find a perfect match. It truly does look like real skin, no lie. My problem is the darker foundation colors. Some are weird color tones I've never seen before and I have a hard time matching colors on darker skin tones. Also, some of the darker colors look ashy on the skin. I would give the light to tan foundations an A, but the darker ones a C, only because I haven't tried them all but the few that I have tried are either a weird match or are ashy.

I just bought a whole new airbrush system by Iwata but will continue to use Dinair's airbrush foundation. If there was another gun that was compatible with Dinair's compressor, I would have just replaced the Dinair gun, but I emailed paintandpowderstore.com and they said their guns work with regular cords, not rubber ones.

  1. Yea I was going to get the Dinair but now I'm definitely not! I'm thinking about getting the OCC airbrush kit- I heard it works really well and I love the brand as a whole. Hope the Iwata works well for you!

  3. I really like honest reviews/experiences like this. It's still way way way out of my price range but I would someday like to invest in one of these bad boys so it's never to early to start researching.

  4. I'm so glad you posted this! My friend has the Dinair and has been trying to get me to convert, but she hasn't really used it in a while, which means she's not as in love with it as when she first got it. Please keep us updated on the Iwata! I have a friend that uses it for Airbrush art [non-cosmetic] and he loves it! Unforunately, that tells me nothing when it comes to foundations... =P

  6. I've been hearing great things about the Iwata system so I'm confident it will be great for me. It's even the preferred system to sell at makeup schools. Definitely check out Goss's review on it too. I would stay clear from Dinair's gun and if your Fonda compatible gun with their compressor, that works too.

  10. Choosing the best colors that fit your skin tone is one of the best pleasures in my life. The other is using airbrush makeup to make my face even more beautiful. I find airbrush makeup easy to use especially with the colors I chosen for my self.
