I have been using Clarins Instant Smooth in my makeup kit for over a year now. I first learned about this product through an article on Beautylish.com about a celebrity makeup artist who uses this to remove shininess after an actress has been wearing her makeup for some hours.
I immediately went to Macy's to purchase this because I love oil controlling products since I suffer from oily skin. Once I saw this product in person and felt its texture, I had a feeling that this product had oil in it. I asked the lady at the counter and she immediately said no, which told me she had no clue because I doubt she knew all the ingredients in all the products. I was expecting her to stop and look at the ingredient list and then give me an answer. Either way, I figured I'd buy it because it was an amazing wrinkle filler.
When I got home, the fourth ingredient was Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil. Either way, when I used this product on myself, I did get shiny after some hours, but not too much shine, just the regular. So I used this on top of my makeup and the shininess was gone! I love that you can use it on top of your makeup.
It made me think that L'Oreal's Magic Perfecting base might be a copy of this. I decided to place this goodie in my kit because it would be perfect for my older clients. And let me tell you, it really does smooth out wrinkles and pores beautifully because I notice it and so do the clients. And makeup applies smoothly over it. Just make sure you let it set. I now ALWAYS use it for ALL clients under the eyes to smooth out the crows feet and tiny wrinkles. The only time I use it on the face is if the client has very dry skin or if the client has oily skin but has wrinkles (I'll put in in areas that don't usually get oily, like smile lines or around the mouth).
I really love this product and refer it to clients all the time by demonstrating it on the wrinkles on my knuckles. It immediately impresses them, as well as me! Haha
It runs for about $32 and contains .50 oz and a little goes a long way. I use it on everyone and still have plenty in the jar. You definitely don't want to use too much as the foundation might clump up on the areas where you used the Instant Smooth.

DeleteWow! I've never heard anyone recommend this product. Thanks for the review and info. I'll have to look into it. Good to know that you can use it under and on top of makeup. From your description, it sounds like MAC Matte gel.
ReplyDeleteI've used Mac matte gel once but I wouldnt categorize the Clarins instant smooth as a mattifying gel/cream.
DeleteHmmmmm. I'm really curious to see this knuckle demonstration ...
ReplyDeleteI actually tried but the camera doesn't show that detail
